Kano Governor Yusuf’s Defection “World’s Greatest Betrayal” — Buba Galadima

NNPP chieftain likens Governor Abba Yusuf’s move to APC to historic betrayals, calls for January 23 to be marked as World Betrayal Day.

A senior member of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has described the defection of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as one of the most shocking betrayals in history.

Speaking on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Tuesday, Galadima said the governor’s resignation from the NNPP on January 23, followed by his official return to the APC on Monday, was purely motivated by personal interest.

“This betrayal should be in the Guinness World Records. January 23 should be marked every year as World Betrayal Day,” Galadima said.

The elder statesman, over 75 years old, added that the defection was a profound shock, comparing it to the betrayals of Judas against Jesus and Brutus against Caesar.

“Governor Yusuf’s defection was done for his personal interest. It is a betrayal to the people of Kano. If I could shed tears, this act would move me beyond expression,” Galadima said.

The comments highlight tensions within Nigerian politics, as defections continue to reshape party dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
