President Bola Tinubu has sent a message of condolence to Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi following the death of his father, Mr Sunday Ndidi, who died in a road accident in Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State.

The condolence message was conveyed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.

Mr Ndidi, father of the Nigerian international footballer who currently plays for Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas, reportedly lost his life on Tuesday in the fatal accident.

‘A painful and tragic loss’

President Tinubu described the incident as heartbreaking, expressing sympathy with the Ndidi family at a time of profound grief.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi,” the President said.

“I share in the grief of his family, friends and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide.”

Tribute to character and legacy

The President noted that the late Sunday Ndidi was widely respected for his humility and integrity, qualities that left a lasting impact on those around him.

“There is no doubt that Sunday’s modest beginnings and honesty greatly impacted those who looked up to him for inspiration,” Tinubu added.

He prayed for divine comfort for the bereaved family and asked God to grant eternal rest to the deceased.

The death has continued to draw condolences from across Nigeria’s sports and political circles, with many describing it as a painful loss for the Super Eagles captain and his family.
