Osun State Police have detained an 18-year-old suspect, Isaac Lucky, following the death of a youth in Idoka community. The incident, linked to alleged drug abuse, has sparked renewed concerns over substance-related violence among young people in the state.
Police disclosed that Isaac Lucky had been involved in repeated disturbances and criminal activities in Idoka and neighboring areas. Investigations revealed that the suspect’s alleged abuse of illicit substances—including kolos, loud, and tramadol—may have contributed to his violent behaviour.
The fatal encounter occurred on December 19, 2025, when the suspect, after committing another offence, was pursued by local youths including the eventual victim. The chase led to a pond in the community, where a confrontation escalated, resulting in the victim being restrained and strangled.
Confirming the arrest, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, Police Public Relations Officer for Osun State, said:
“Following a thorough investigation, the suspect was charged to court and subsequently remanded at a correctional centre. Community cooperation was crucial in enabling the arrest.”
DSP Ojelabi also issued a stern warning against drug use among youths:
“Drug abuse destroys the health and future of individuals, and intoxication is not a defence to crime.”
The Osun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety, urging residents to report suspicious activities promptly.
