Oyo Fire Service Recovers Two Bodies from Wells in Saki and Ogbomoso

One victim reportedly entered a well to rescue a goat before becoming trapped

The Oyo State Fire Service has recovered two bodies from separate wells in Saki and Ogbomoso in incidents that occurred within 48 hours.

The Chairman of the Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the recoveries in a statement issued on Wednesday, detailing how emergency responders were deployed to both locations after distress calls.

Tragedy in Saki

Firefighters from the Saki Command were called to the Mokola area on Monday, where a 45-year-old man had become trapped inside a deep well.

According to the agency, the man reportedly climbed into the well in an attempt to rescue a goat that had fallen in. During the effort, he became stuck and was unable to escape.

Rescue officers secured the area and carried out a recovery operation, retrieving the man’s body from the well.

Second recovery in Ogbomoso

A similar incident was reported on Tuesday in the Aje Ikose area of Ogbomoso, where another man, identified as Shina Adedeji and believed to be about 30 years old, fell into a well.

Fire service personnel from the Ogbomoso zone responded to the emergency and recovered his body.

Safety concerns

The Fire Service did not immediately provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the second incident but reiterated the importance of safety precautions around uncovered wells, especially in residential areas.

Authorities are urging residents to take preventive measures to avoid such accidents.
