Anti-graft agency says actress will be charged to court as investigation into alleged currency mutilation continues.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested popular Kannywood actress, Samha Inuwa, over an alleged abuse of Nigeria’s currency following the circulation of a viral video on social media.
Operatives of the EFCC’s Kano Zonal Directorate took the actress into custody on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, after a clip surfaced online showing her using Naira notes to wipe mucus from her nose.
Confirming the development, the Commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said the video triggered immediate action by investigators.
According to Oyewale, EFCC operatives tracked Inuwa after the footage gained traction online and invited her for questioning over what the agency described as suspected currency mutilation.
He disclosed that the actress is currently being held at the Commission’s facility in Kano while investigations are ongoing.
Oyewale added that Inuwa would be formally charged to court once the investigation is concluded.
The EFCC has in recent times intensified its crackdown on the abuse and mutilation of the Naira, warning Nigerians — including public figures — against acts considered disrespectful to the national currency.
The arrest adds to a growing list of celebrities and influencers facing scrutiny from the anti-graft agency over how the Naira is handled in public and on social media.
