Police launch manhunt as suspect flees Osubi community after allegedly killing son who helped his mother escape abuse

A quiet community in Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, has been thrown into shock after a man allegedly stabbed his 23-year-old son to death in what residents describe as a tragic fallout from years of domestic violence.

The suspect, identified simply as Iseleto, is accused of luring his son, Miracle, into a nearby bush before stabbing him multiple times with a dagger.

Residents told reporters that the incident followed a family dispute after the young man rented a separate apartment for his mother — the suspect’s wife — in an effort to shield her from persistent abuse at home.

According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect allegedly deceived Miracle into accompanying him to a bush path, where the attack occurred. Despite severe injuries, the victim reportedly managed to stagger to the roadside, where passersby rushed him to a hospital. He later died from his wounds.

Before his death, Miracle reportedly narrated how his father tricked him into the bush and attacked him.

Sources in the community also revealed that the suspect allegedly admitted to the killing during a phone call with his step-daughter. He is further said to have contacted relatives, threatening to kill his wife for leaving the marital home.

Neighbours described the suspect as a habitual drunkard with a history of violent behaviour towards his wife. They alleged that he frequently assaulted her while intoxicated and created an unsafe environment in their one-room apartment.

One resident claimed the suspect once attempted to force himself on his step-daughter, and when she resisted, he drove her out of the house.

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the incident and launched a search for the fleeing suspect.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the suspect remains at large and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.

The killing has sparked outrage within the Osubi community, with residents calling for swift justice and greater attention to domestic violence issues that often go unreported until they escalate into tragedy.
