Popular Nigerian skitmaker Isaac Aloma, widely known as Zicsaloma, has opened up about how his family’s entitled behavior slowed his journey to financial independence.
Speaking in a recent video broadcast on personal finance and wealth building, Zicsaloma revealed that the lack of boundaries and constant financial demands from relatives hindered his early business ventures.
“I did a lot of business while growing up, but most of them failed because of family. African family—and even your own—can be very entitled to your wealth, even when the purpose of working is to save money and build a better future,” he said.
Advocating Financial Boundaries
The skitmaker stressed the importance of setting strict financial limits, even with friends and family, to achieve long-term financial goals.
“It is very, very okay to be financially heartless even to your friends and family so that you can save up and break that cycle. They will hate you for it, but trust me, it is for your own good,” Zicsaloma added.
His comments highlight a growing conversation among African creatives and entrepreneurs about the challenges of financial independence in communal societies, where family expectations can sometimes conflict with personal wealth building.
Zicsaloma’s advice underscores that discipline, strategic savings, and financial boundaries are crucial to breaking generational cycles of dependency and achieving economic freedom.
