The Labour Party (LP) has reported a violent incident at its national headquarters in Abuja, alleging that supporters of former leader Julius Abure stormed the party’s facility and vandalized property on Tuesday night.
The faction led by Nenadi Usman, recognised as the Interim National Chairman by a Federal High Court ruling, accused Abure and his supporters of tearing down a billboard at the party’s Secretariat.
“The former and expelled Julius Abure led hoodlums to vandalize our National HQ and pulled down our billboard. Very sad,” the Nenadi-led group said in a post on its official X account on Wednesday morning.
The takeover of the Secretariat by the Usman faction earlier on Tuesday had been supported by Abia State Governor Alex Otti, heightening tensions between the rival camps. The incident marks a new escalation in the ongoing leadership dispute within the Labour Party.
The Julius Abure-led faction has yet to publicly respond to the allegations. Political analysts warn that such clashes could affect the party’s stability ahead of key national elections.
