Damaturu, Yobe State – February 17, 2026 – The Yobe State Police Command has successfully dismantled a criminal syndicate involved in abduction, fraud, and impersonation, rescuing a kidnapped victim and recovering a vehicle used in the crimes.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed that four suspects have been arrested following an intelligence-led operation in Damaturu. Investigators said the suspects posed as security operatives to carry out their illicit activities.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects abducted the victim in Damaturu, falsely accusing him of financial impropriety and using intimidation tactics to extort money,” SP Abdulkarim said. “The victim was forcefully transported toward Potiskum in a hired Toyota SUV.”
The suspects have voluntarily confessed to their crimes and are currently in police custody. The police say further investigations are ongoing, with a view to prosecuting the perpetrators diligently.
This operation underscores the increasing reliance on intelligence-led policing in Yobe State to combat fraud, kidnapping, and criminal impersonation.
