Lagos, Nigeria – February 16, 2026 – Nigerian gospel minister and pastor Nathaniel Bassey has recounted a dramatic encounter with an alleged traditional spiritualist, whom he described as a “juju man,” claiming the man attempted to place him under a spell — but failed.
The incident, Bassey said, took place on a busy express road and marked the second time the same individual had confronted him. According to the pastor, the man knocked on his car and began performing what he described as an enchantment, allegedly trying to compel him to “do something.”
“I just stood there and laughed,” Bassey said during a worship session, explaining that he responded by reciting Bible verses to protect himself spiritually. He cited scriptures affirming divine protection, including passages stating, “Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm” and “There is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel.”
Bassey said the man lingered at the scene, seemingly waiting for the spell to take effect, but the minister stepped out of his car and ordered him to leave immediately. Reflecting on the encounter, he expressed regret that he had not detained the individual until law enforcement arrived.
The pastor emphasized that his account was intended not to glorify evil but to highlight the reality of spiritual challenges and the power of faith. “While we do not glorify the devil, there is wickedness in the world,” he said.
