Tensions escalated at the National Assembly Complex as demonstrators clashed with police during ongoing protests calling for real-time transmission of election results to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) IREV portal.
A video from the scene showed protesters fleeing the fumes of tear gas, shouting, “They don shoot tear gas” and “They shot it directly at the people.” Others were heard chanting “We no go gree o”, expressing defiance amid the chaos.
Journalists on the ground were also caught up in the commotion as law enforcement attempted to disperse the crowd.
This marks the second consecutive day protesters returned to the National Assembly to demand transparency and faster reporting of polling unit results, highlighting growing public frustration with the electoral process.
Authorities have yet to comment on the use of tear gas or the current status of the demonstrations.
