President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm Retired Admiral Jamila Abubakar as National Commissioner representing Adamawa State at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The request was made in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, read at plenary on Tuesday. Tinubu cited Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in forwarding Abubakar’s nomination for expeditious Senate consideration.

“While I hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee expeditiously, please accept, the Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration,” Tinubu wrote.

Senate President Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on INEC for legislative input, with a report expected in one week.

NAHCON Chairmanship Nomination Also Forwarded

In a separate letter, Tinubu also urged the Senate to confirm Ambassador Ismail Yusuf as Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), citing Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2026.

Akpabio subsequently referred Yusuf’s nomination to the Senate Committee on Rules and Business for review, also to report back within a week.

Both nominations reflect Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to fill key national posts in electoral and religious oversight institutions, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
