Beautiful Nubia Accuses Yinka Ayefele and BBO of Stealing Melody from Hit Song “Seven Lifes”

Veteran Nigerian musician Segun Akinlolu has publicly accused gospel artists Yinka Ayefele and rising singer BBO of allegedly copying the melody of his original track, “Seven Lifes.”

The allegation, made in a post on X (formerly Twitter), claims that Ayefele’s 2012 song, “My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti),” and BBO’s recent release, “Amin,” both drew from the melody of Beautiful Nubia’s work without permission.

“There was Yinka Ayefele with ‘My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti)’ in 2012 and now someone called BBO with ‘Amin’ this year. Both stole their melodies from our original song ‘Seven Lifes’,” he wrote.

Veteran Artist Calls for Respect of Copyrights

Beautiful Nubia questioned what he described as a recurring issue in Nigeria’s music industry, particularly within the gospel genre.

“When will Nigerians, especially the so-called gospel musicians, learn to respect copyright?” he asked, highlighting concerns over intellectual property rights, originality, and ethical standards in music.

The musician, renowned for his distinct sound and storytelling rooted in culture and social themes, urged fellow artistes to respect copyright laws and ensure their creative works do not infringe on the rights of others.

Industry Reacts

The post has sparked debates among music enthusiasts and industry stakeholders about copyright infringement and originality in Nigerian gospel music.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Ayefele nor BBO has responded publicly to the allegations.
