Governor cites fast-tracking development and public interest as reason for leaving PDP
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), formally leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) he has been associated with.
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fintiri announced that his entire cabinet, along with members of the PDP in Adamawa, would accompany him to the ruling party, signalling a major political shift in the state.
The governor stated that his decision was motivated by the desire to accelerate development and act in the best interests of Adamawa residents. “This move is aimed at creating more opportunities and ensuring that the state benefits from being aligned with the ruling party at the federal level,” Fintiri said.
Political analysts suggest that the defection could significantly alter the political landscape in Adamawa ahead of the 2027 elections, boosting the APC’s presence in the North-East.
