Justice Hussaini Belgore of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has recused himself from the fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, citing impending leave.
The case file has been returned to the FCT Chief Judge for reassignment to another judge, temporarily putting proceedings on hold.
El-Rufai’s suit challenges alleged violations of his fundamental rights, including actions by agencies such as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Central to the suit is the invasion of El-Rufai’s Abuja residence and perceived irregularities in ongoing investigations and legal matters involving the former governor.
With Justice Belgore’s withdrawal, the timeline for the case remains uncertain, pending reassignment by the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court.
