Nigerian streamer and content creator, Caterefe, has shared a harrowing account of how his father, a policeman, was fatally shot by armed robbers disguised in military camouflage during a highway robbery in Ogun State years ago.
The skitmaker recounted that his father, who had just finished his shift, boarded a police van heading to the nearest bus stop to their home. Unaware of the danger ahead, they encountered a gridlock caused by the ongoing robbery.
Curious about the disruption, Caterefe’s father and his colleagues exited the van to investigate, not realizing that the assailants in camouflage were criminals. Upon spotting the police uniforms, the robbers opened fire, killing his father instantly.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Caterefe described the trauma of seeing his father’s lifeless body broadcast on YouTube. “My dad had closed from duty and was heading home. They ran into a gridlock caused by men in military camouflage. When they got out, the robbers saw them in police uniforms and opened fire. I saw my dad’s lifeless body on YouTube,” he said.
Reflecting on the personal loss, Caterefe emphasized resilience: “I am not a stranger to pain. I have gone through a lot. No pain will make me stop my grind.”
The incident highlights the dangers posed by criminal gangs impersonating military personnel in Nigeria, raising concerns over public safety and law enforcement challenges on major highways.
