Gunmen Abduct Six Worshippers During Ramadan Prayers in Kaduna Mosque

Kaduna, Nigeria – March 2, 2026 – Six worshippers were kidnapped by suspected bandits while performing Taraweeh prayers at a mosque in Azara community, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attack occurred at night as residents gathered for Ramadan prayers. Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen stormed the area, firing shots into the air to frighten worshippers before abducting four men and two women from the mosque.

A source in the community revealed that, while fleeing, the attackers raided another home and attempted to abduct two additional people, who later escaped after being taken into the bush.

A local leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the identities of the six victims as Saifullahi Harisu, Yakubu Yunusa, Abba Minkailu, Yusha’u Sadiku, Maryam Abdullahi, and Aisha Yakubu.

The kidnappers have reportedly contacted the community, demanding ₦30 million for the release of the victims.

Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Hassan Mansur, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

The incident adds to the rising security concerns in Kaduna State, which has witnessed frequent attacks by armed groups targeting both religious centers and residential areas.
