
A 300-level student of the University of Ibadan has died after allegedly ingesting a substance suspected to be insecticide. The incident occurred on Sunday night at Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall, one of the university’s residential halls.
According to sources, the student was found in an unconscious and distressed state on the ground floor of the hall by a fellow student. Reports indicate that the substance ingested was identified as Sniper, a commonly used pesticide.
The student was immediately taken to the university clinic, where initial stabilisation efforts were carried out. He was later referred to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, and placed on life support, but succumbed to his condition.
Funmi Adetuyibi, Public Relations Officer of UCH, confirmed the death, stating, “Yes, it is true. He was brought to the hospital. He is dead.”
