President Bola Tinubu has nominated Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr. Doris Anite-Uzoka, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning. This marks Anite-Uzoka’s third ministerial portfolio under the current administration.
The nomination, announced on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, will now await confirmation by the Senate. A formal letter from President Tinubu was addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio for Oyedele’s approval.
Oyedele, a native of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, is a seasoned economist, accountant, and public policy expert with over 20 years of professional experience. Before his nomination, he chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, leading a major overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system.
He holds an HND in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, rising to the role of Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He currently serves as a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
If confirmed, Oyedele will oversee state finance management at a critical time as the Tinubu administration continues efforts to strengthen fiscal policy and economic reforms.
