A devastating fire tore through Jos’s Faringada Market on Tuesday morning, destroying at least 20 shops and several vehicles, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed.
The agency said the fire, which erupted around 6:00 a.m., primarily affected shops selling vehicle spare parts and led to significant economic losses for traders.
NEMA’s statement on its official X page revealed that four containers, a bus, and a Toyota Corolla were also consumed by the flames. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The Jos Operations Office of NEMA coordinated with the Federal Fire Service to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading further within the market.
Preliminary reports from market stakeholders indicate that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. NEMA confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to the outbreak.
Traders affected by the blaze are assessing losses, and authorities are working to prevent similar incidents in the future.
