Portable Laments Low Streaming Revenue Despite Frequent Releases, Appeals to Don Jazzy for Guidance

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has raised concerns over low streaming revenue from his music, despite releasing new songs monthly and boasting an international fanbase.

In a recent social media video, the Zazu crooner revealed his frustrations with earnings from Apple Music, calling the revenue insufficient to match his output.

“I am in pain. I have been putting my song on Apple Music every month, but the money I am generating is too low,” Portable said. He expressed bewilderment that despite streams from fans in the United States and beyond, his earnings remained minimal.

Portable appealed directly to renowned music executive Don Jazzy for guidance on improving revenue generation from digital platforms.

“Don Jazzy, please, help me and teach me how to generate more money from music streams. I have an Apple Music account, but the revenue I receive is very low. They divide my earnings into 17. Please, come and teach me how to fetch music money. If Don Jazzy teaches me, I would be bigger than all artistes in Nigeria,” he said.

Portable’s comments highlight ongoing concerns among Nigerian artists about low streaming payouts, particularly from international platforms, and the need for better monetization strategies in Africa’s growing music industry.
