Abia 2027: Otti Administration Dismisses Opposition Criticism Amid Claims of Political Distraction

A senior aide to Abia State Governor, Alex Chioma Otti, has dismissed recent criticisms from opposition figures, describing them as “politically displaced actors” attempting to distract the administration ahead of the 2027 elections.

Dr. Ebere Uzoukwa, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, made the remarks while responding to growing political commentary from prominent figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. Among those mentioned were Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia South, and the state APC Chairman, Chijioke Chukwu.

According to Uzoukwa, the individuals and their supporters have continued to circulate claims predicting the removal of Governor Otti in 2027, along with assertions that the APC will take control of all elective positions in the state. He described these claims as propaganda aimed at misleading the public.

He argued that such narratives ignore what he described as visible progress recorded under the current administration. He pointed to developments in infrastructure, urban renewal, and public services as evidence of governance reforms since Governor Otti assumed office in 2023.

Before the present administration, Uzoukwa said Abia State faced significant governance challenges, including unpaid salaries, deteriorating infrastructure, and declining economic activity, particularly in Aba, once regarded as a commercial hub.

He maintained that the situation has improved, citing road reconstruction projects, improved electricity supply, and renewed commercial activity in key areas. He also highlighted ongoing urban renewal efforts in Umuahia and the introduction of electric buses as part of efforts to modernise transportation in the state.

In the health sector, the administration has reportedly increased investment significantly, with 25% of the state budget allocated to education and healthcare since 2024. Uzoukwa said this has led to the delivery of 200 Primary Health Centres and upgrades to several general hospitals across the state.

He added that key institutions, including the Abia State University Teaching Hospital in Aba and the Umuahia Diagnostic and Specialist Hospital, have been repositioned to improve service delivery.

In education, the government says it has undertaken reforms aimed at improving learning standards, including infrastructure upgrades and the recruitment of qualified teachers to strengthen the system.

Uzoukwa insisted that the administration remains focused despite political criticism, adding that Governor Otti is committed to delivering results rather than engaging in political distractions.

He also stated that residents of the state are increasingly supportive of the administration’s direction, suggesting that voters will ultimately determine the outcome of the 2027 elections.
