APC Will Not Re-Open Zoning Arrangement Ahead of National Convention — Uzodimma

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has ruled out any plans to review or alter its existing zoning arrangement for key political offices ahead of its national convention.

Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodimma, made this position known after a meeting of APC governors held in Lagos on Sunday.

Uzodimma stated that the party would maintain the current zoning structure, including positions such as President and Vice President, as they are already in place under the party’s existing framework.

According to him, the zoning arrangement remains consistent with the provisions guiding Nigeria’s electoral process, stressing that there is no intention to shift or reopen discussions on the matter.

“We are not re-zoning. The offices are already zoned. The President is still in office. The Vice President is still in office,” Uzodimma said.

He further clarified that the upcoming national convention is not intended for the selection of candidates for elective offices.

“This convention is not for primaries. The primaries for elective positions will be conducted by INEC,” he added.

Uzodimma explained that the convention will focus solely on the election of party officials who will manage the affairs of the APC moving forward.

The clarification comes amid growing political discussions within the party over power-sharing arrangements ahead of future elections.
