Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has stirred public reaction after calling on Yorubas to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, warning of “spiritual consequences” for those who do not.
In a video broadcast circulating online, the singer claimed that anyone from the Yoruba ethnic group who opposes Tinubu’s re-election risks divine punishment, using strong and symbolic language to emphasise his message.
Portable also alleged that he has been engaged by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to campaign for the president ahead of the elections.
“We need peace, we want peace. If you don’t want war in Nigeria, you better vote for Tinubu,” he said in the video.
He went further to issue a warning, stating, “Thunder and Ogun will strike any Yoruba man who doesn’t.”
The singer added that he has received campaign materials from the APC and hinted at possible grassroots mobilisation efforts, including the distribution of food items such as rice and vegetable oil.
The remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the role of entertainers in political campaigns and the use of strong rhetoric in political advocacy.
Portable, known for his outspoken and often controversial public statements, has frequently courted attention on social media and remains a polarising figure in Nigeria’s entertainment and political discourse.
