Grief has gripped communities in Potiskum after five members of the same family lost their lives in a fatal road accident along the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway.
The victims, all from the Zayi family, were staff of the College of Administration Management and Technology. Their deaths have sent shockwaves through colleagues, friends and residents in Yobe State.
Authorities confirmed that five other individuals sustained injuries in the crash and are currently receiving medical attention.
Mai Mala Buni described the incident as deeply distressing, calling it a painful moment for both the bereaved family and the wider community.
“This is a sad, very unfortunate and a trying moment for the family and the entire state,” the governor said in a statement issued by his media aide.
He offered prayers for the victims and wished those injured a swift recovery.
Also reacting, Musa Mustapha extended his sympathies to the Zayi family and the management of CAMTECH Potiskum.
“On behalf of the good people of Yobe East Senatorial District, I extend our heartfelt condolences,” he said, while praying for the forgiveness of the deceased and healing for the injured.
The loss of five young professionals from a single family has left a deep void in Potiskum, with many describing the incident as one of the most heartbreaking in recent times.
Road accidents remain a persistent concern on major highways across Nigeria, with calls growing for stricter safety measures to prevent further tragedies.
