Nigerian Army Safely Recovers Two IEDs in Kwara Community, Prevents Potential Disaster

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, under the broader Operation Savannah Shield, have successfully recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along the Kaiama–Woro road in Kaiama Local Government Area.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, disclosed via X on Thursday that the recovery followed credible intelligence on an IED-related threat in the area.

“During the operation, the team conducted a thorough scan of the area and discovered two IEDs about 300 metres from the site of a previous explosion,” Makama said.

Joint Operation Ensures Safety

The operation involved collaboration between the army and a Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team. Troops were mobilised to the site around 2:10 p.m. on March 24. The EOD team successfully secured the explosives without any casualties, preventing potential harm to residents and passersby.

Security Efforts Continue Across Kwara State

Authorities have intensified surveillance and counter-insurgency efforts in Kwara State, aiming to curb threats from explosive devices and safeguard local communities. Analysts say such operations highlight the Nigerian military’s proactive approach to intelligence-driven security interventions.
