Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Ogun State governorship aspirant, has endorsed the use of consensus in selecting All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Obasanjo argued that the consensus approach ensures the emergence of credible and electable candidates while respecting the electorate’s wishes.

She dismissed fears that consensus might impose unpopular choices, emphasizing that the process carefully considers public opinion.

“I strongly believe consensus can produce the right candidates because it doesn’t mean party leaders ignore the people’s will; it means they carefully consider public opinion,” she said.

Obasanjo explained that consensus naturally favors aspirants with grassroots support and proven electoral strength.

“Victory is the party’s main objective. They won’t settle for the least popular option in a way that creates conflict among aspirants or discourages strong contenders. That’s why I’m convinced consensus is the best approach,” she added.

Highlighting her own political record as a former commissioner and senator, Obasanjo expressed confidence that the consensus method would bolster her campaign for the Ogun APC governorship ticket.
