Nollywood star Lilian Afegbai has publicly criticised the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) after being excluded from the 2026 nominations.
The 12th edition of the AMVCA saw her co-star in To Kill A Monkey, Bimbo Akintola, nominated for Best Lead Actress. Afegbai, however, argued that her own portrayal of Idia was the most trending and memorable performance from the hit series.
Taking to X, Afegbai expressed her disappointment while asserting that she doesn’t need awards for validation. “AMVCA smh. I always choose to believe everything happens for a reason. I don’t need a nomination for validation. The truth is clear: Nobody trended like Idia from TKAM last year. Her acting was 100. You guys can eat your award,” she wrote.
Her comments highlight the growing tension between Nollywood talents and award organisers, raising questions about recognition and fairness in the industry.
Fans have since flooded social media with reactions, with many supporting Afegbai’s unapologetic stance and calling for more transparency in the nomination process.
