Lagos State — Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a coalition of Surulere stakeholders has formally rejected Mr. Desmond Elliot’s pursuit of a fourth term as the representative of Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The group, speaking through its spokesperson, Mr. Olanrewaju Badmus, criticized Elliot’s legislative record, highlighting “dismal performance, weak policy innovation, and a failure to address pressing local needs.” Comprising community leaders, youth groups, small-business representatives, and civil society organisations, the coalition reviewed Elliot’s three-term tenure and found it lacking.

According to Badmus, the lawmaker delivered minimal constituency projects and exhibited limited legislative impact, particularly on infrastructure decay, youth unemployment, and inadequate primary healthcare.

“We are not opposed to any individual on principle, but continued leadership must produce tangible improvements. Three terms should have yielded clear, measurable progress. Instead, we have seen stagnation and recycled ideas,” Badmus stated.

He emphasized that the decision was based on accountability and the evolving aspirations of Surulere residents, not personal bias. The forum urges the community to support candidates who bring fresh energy, innovative ideas, and a renewed commitment to people-centered representation.

The development follows a recent mass rally by supporters and some APC stakeholders who advocated for Elliot’s consensus candidacy, citing his previous contributions. The contrasting positions indicate rising debates over leadership, performance, and political renewal in Surulere ahead of the 2027 elections.
