Abuja — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has kicked off its 2026 Easter Special Patrol Operations, running from April 1 to 8, aimed at ensuring safe travel and reducing road accidents during the holiday period.

In a statement on Wednesday, Ag. Corps Public Education Officer Felicia Kalu quoted Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, who said the operation responds to the expected surge in vehicular and pedestrian traffic as Nigerians join Christians worldwide in Easter celebrations.

High-risk routes across the country, including Lagos-Ibadan, Sagamu-Ore-Benin, Abuja-Lokoja, Benin-Auchi-Okene, Kaduna-Zaria-Kano, and eastern corridors such as Onitsha-Asaba-Benin, Onitsha-Owerri, and Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt, have been prioritized for special attention.

“Personnel and logistics have been strategically deployed along these corridors to enhance traffic flow, ensure rapid emergency response, and boost operational visibility,” Mohammed said.

The Corps warned of intensified enforcement against traffic violations linked to crashes, including speeding, overloading, dangerous driving, lane indiscipline, mobile phone use while driving, tyre violations, road obstructions, and mixing passengers with goods.

Special measures will also target seat belt compliance, child restraint use, and mechanically deficient vehicles. Mobile courts will operate along major routes to ensure immediate prosecution of offenders, promoting accountability and adherence to traffic laws.

FRSC has activated 24-hour patrol, rescue, and traffic management services, supported by ambulances, tow trucks, and modern enforcement equipment. Real-time travel advisories and safety campaigns will be broadcast via National Traffic Radio 107.1 FM and other media platforms.

Mohammed urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid risky driving behaviours, and ensure vehicles are in good condition before travel. Emergency assistance is available through toll-free number 122 or 0700-CALL-FRSC.
