Jos Killings: Cubana Chief Priest Alleges Attack Timed to Embarrass Tinubu on Birthday

– Nigerian socialite and entertainer Cubana Chief Priest has sparked debate after claiming that the recent mass killing in Jos, Plateau State, was orchestrated to embarrass President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his birthday.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday evening in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba area of Jos, reportedly left more than 40 people dead, sending shockwaves across the country. The incident coincided with the president’s 74th birthday.

Claim Sparks Controversy

Reacting via his Instagram platform, Cubana Chief Priest expressed grief over the killings while suggesting a political undertone behind the violence.

“I have been cold. In the past few days, the video of that woman and her child can’t get out of my head. When will these killings ever stop?” he wrote.

He added, “I feel for everyone in Jos. This was clearly done to embarrass our president on his birthday.”

His remarks have since drawn mixed reactions, with some Nigerians questioning the basis of the claim, while others focused on the need for urgent security interventions.

Criticism of State Response

The celebrity also criticised Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang over his visit to the affected community, alleging that the governor arrived in a heavily protected vehicle.

“The Governor in Jos pulled up in a bunker… does it mean everyone should now move in bunkers because he is more scared for his life than the people?” he said, calling for leadership that demonstrates courage in times of crisis.

Rising Security Concerns

The deadly assault has heightened fears over insecurity in Plateau State, a region that has witnessed recurring communal and violent attacks in recent years.

While authorities have yet to officially confirm the motive behind the latest killings, the scale of the violence has renewed calls for stronger security measures and swift justice for victims.

Analysts say incidents like this continue to test public confidence in Nigeria’s security architecture, particularly when they coincide with politically significant dates.
