The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, April 3 (Good Friday), and Monday, April 6 (Easter Monday) as public holidays to mark the 2026 Easter celebrations.
The announcement was made in a statement on Wednesday by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The minister extended Easter greetings to Christians in Nigeria and the diaspora, encouraging citizens to embrace the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, love, and forbearance exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
“Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to remain committed to the values of tolerance and community that keep us united as a nation,” the statement read.
The Minister also reiterated that the government remains committed to policies fostering national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity, wishing all Christians a peaceful and joyous Easter.
The public holidays provide Nigerians an opportunity to celebrate with family and communities while reflecting on the moral lessons associated with the season.
