
A 23-year-old man has been arrested by the Gender Based Violence Unit of the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl in Owo.
The victim reported that on March 29, 2026, the suspect, identified as Emmanuel Usman, forcibly dragged her into his employer’s office in Ijebu Quarters, where he allegedly had non-consensual sexual relations with her. She further claimed that Usman threatened her with severe consequences if she disclosed the incident, attempting to intimidate and silence her.
Following the report, police promptly acted, leading to Usman’s arrest. Ondo State Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh confirmed that the suspect is in custody and cooperating with investigators, providing statements that are aiding the ongoing inquiry.
“The operatives swiftly responded upon receiving the report, resulting in the suspect’s arrest,” Jimoh said. He added that the victim received immediate medical attention at the General Hospital, Owo, and that psychosocial support is being provided to ensure her well-being throughout the investigation and judicial process.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, condemned the act and directed that the case be handled with the utmost urgency, sensitivity, and diligence. Lawal reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling all forms of sexual and gender-based violence in the state.
Authorities confirmed that upon completion of the investigation, Usman will face prosecution in accordance with the law, emphasizing the police’s determination to secure justice for victims of sexual violence.
