Lagos Govt Warns of Traffic Diversions Ahead of Key Project Launches This Week

Motorists in Lagos are being urged to plan ahead as the state government announces partial road closures linked to the commissioning of major infrastructure projects this Wednesday and Thursday.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the measures aim to ensure safety and smooth conduct during the events, while minimising congestion. Traffic officials will be on duty to guide drivers and manage vehicular flow.

On Wednesday, April 8, commuters should expect delays around the Opebi-Allen, Ikeja, and Ojota corridors between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., as the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge is officially commissioned.

Thursday, April 9, will see partial closures in Olodi Apapa and Ajegunle during the morning commissioning of the Tolu Schools Complex, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Later in the day, between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., motorists are advised to avoid Victoria Island and the Eko Hotel area due to another official event.

The government confirmed that 500 additional officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have been deployed to assist with traffic management during the high-profile events, which will be attended by President Bola Tinubu.

Osiyemi urged residents and commuters to exercise patience and use alternative routes where possible, stressing that the partial closures are temporary measures aimed at ensuring public safety and the successful inauguration of key state projects.
