A senior bank executive, Roland Egede, has buried his mother in Delta State, drawing tributes for a woman whose life left a lasting mark on healthcare and community service.
The ceremony took place on April 10, 2026, in Boju Boju Owa, where family members, associates, and community leaders gathered to celebrate Dame Mabel Bamidele Egede, a former Chief Nursing Officer remembered for her discipline, compassion, and public service.
Dame Egede, widely known as Ezinne Ezioku—meaning “mother of truth”—died on October 19, 2025, at the age of 82. Her passing marked the end of a life defined by commitment to both profession and faith.
Born on July 5, 1943, in Osogbo in the former Oyo State, she was the daughter of Pa Abel Mokwuye Aleh and Mama Grace Aleh. Her early years shaped a path that would later see her rise to one of the most respected nursing roles in Delta State.
She served as Chief Nursing Officer with distinction, earning recognition for her integrity and dedication to strengthening the healthcare system. Family members described her career as one guided by purpose and excellence.
Outside the workplace, she was known for her generosity and strong Christian values. Her home became a hub of kindness, especially during festive periods when she hosted and supported extended family and members of the community.
“She was a loving and dedicated woman of God whose kindness, strength, and warmth touched the lives of all who knew her,” the family said, adding that she viewed nursing as a calling rooted in compassion.
Her devotion to church service earned her the nickname “Mama Environmental,” reflecting her hands-on commitment to maintaining a clean and welcoming place of worship—even in her absence.
Relatives also highlighted her reputation for fairness and truth, qualities that earned her the title Ezinne Ezioku. They expressed gratitude for the support received during their mourning, noting that her legacy of service and generosity will endure.
