The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) remains one of Nigeria’s strongest tools for unity and national integration, according to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who has urged young graduates to embrace their service year as a mission of nation-building rather than routine obligation.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch “A” Stream II corps members, the governor said the NYSC continues to play a vital role in bridging ethnic and regional divides across the country. He was represented at the event by Kenneth Buenyen, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

He described corps members as more than participants in a national programme, calling them “ambassadors of unity” and key contributors to social and economic development across Nigeria.

The governor encouraged the new corps members to take their orientation training seriously and follow all programme guidelines. He stressed the importance of discipline, patriotism, and leadership as core values that should guide their service year and future careers.

He also warned against the spread of misinformation, urging them to avoid divisive narratives that could undermine national cohesion. According to him, unity remains essential to Nigeria’s long-term stability and progress.

Mutfwang reassured the corps members that his administration is prioritising security in Plateau State, working closely with relevant agencies to maintain peace and protect all residents, including NYSC participants.

“You are expected to serve with honour and responsibility,” he said, adding that corps members should wear their uniforms with pride and view their assignment as a contribution to national development.

Earlier, NYSC State Coordinator Jonathan Yavala urged the newly sworn-in corps members to actively participate in all camp activities, especially the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programme designed to prepare them for life after service.

Yavala also commended the Plateau State Government for its continued support for the NYSC scheme, describing it as critical to the success of the orientation exercise and corps welfare.

According to figures released by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), a total of 1,773 corps members have been registered for the 2026 Batch “A” Stream II orientation course in Plateau State.
