Fear has gripped Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State after armed terrorists threatened to kill 176 abducted residents if their demands are not met within one week.
The warning was confirmed by the traditional ruler of the community, Salihu Bio, during a telephone conversation, revealing that his wife is among those still held captive.
According to him, the message was passed directly to the hostages after Friday Jumu’ah prayers, where the abductors addressed the victims in captivity.
The monarch said the attackers expressed anger over what they described as the government’s slow response and lack of urgency in negotiating the release of the victims.
He added that the group complained about the cost of keeping the abductees alive and insisted that authorities were not treating the situation seriously.
In a disturbing development, the captors reportedly allowed one of the abducted women to contact her family, confirming that all the victims were still alive but under harsh conditions.
She said the abductors claimed affiliation with Boko Haram and disclosed that they had been teaching captives Arabic and Islamic studies during their time in captivity.
The abductee further relayed that the attackers warned of severe consequences if their demands are not met, including threats to forcibly marry off female captives and execute those they consider weak.
The scale of the abduction has intensified concerns over insecurity in rural communities across north-central Nigeria, where kidnapping for ransom has become increasingly frequent.
Security analysts warn that prolonged hostage situations like this place immense pressure on families and authorities, often with limited communication and unpredictable outcomes.
As of now, there has been no official statement from security agencies on the latest threat or the status of rescue operations in the affected area.
