Security forces under the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have carried out a targeted airstrike that killed several suspected terrorist leaders in Zamfara State, in what the military described as a precision intelligence-led operation.
The strike was executed on May 10, 2026, at Tumfa Village in Shinkafi Local Government Area after intelligence reports indicated a high-level meeting of terrorist commanders in the area.
According to a statement released by military authorities, the operation was coordinated after surveillance confirmed the gathering was taking place inside a concealed structure located in a heavily vegetated environment on the outskirts of the village.
The Media Information Officer of the operation, Aliyu Danja, said troops combined efforts with the Air Component Command to launch the strike on the identified hideout.
The military said the targeted structure, believed to be serving as a command meeting point, was completely destroyed during the air assault.
A post-strike assessment reportedly confirmed that several terrorists were killed, while others escaped with injuries, fleeing into nearby communities and forested areas.
Military surveillance units later observed suspected collaborators attempting to evacuate casualties from the site, prompting further monitoring and response operations in the surrounding areas.
Ground troops have since intensified clearance operations across Shinkafi and neighbouring communities in a bid to track fleeing suspects and prevent regrouping.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA stated that the mission is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks operating across Nigeria’s North-West region, where armed groups have continued to carry out attacks on rural communities.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustained offensive operations, stressing that intelligence-driven strikes will remain central to its counter-terrorism strategy.
The latest operation adds to a series of coordinated air and ground offensives aimed at weakening insurgent command structures and disrupting their operational capabilities across Zamfara and surrounding states.
