Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers linked to a vehicle-snatching syndicate operating across Ogun State and nearby areas.
Police authorities said the suspects were apprehended during coordinated intelligence-led operations in Ota, leading to the recovery of three reportedly stolen vehicles and other incriminating items.
The suspects were identified as 48-year-old Mohammed Usman, popularly known as “Mandela,” and 38-year-old Abiodun Ogunojukan, also called “Ilasa.”
According to police findings, the duo allegedly belonged to a criminal network involved in armed robbery and vehicle theft operations targeting residents within and outside Ogun State.
Among the vehicles recovered were a Toyota Corolla, a Toyota Venza reportedly stolen at gunpoint in Abeokuta on April 26, 2026, and a Honda Crosstour.
Police also recovered two live cartridges, foreign currencies, a So-Safe Corps uniform, an MP3 sound system and a plasma television set during the operation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said detectives attached to the Ifo and Sango divisions carried out the operation under the supervision of CSP Kamorudeen Olabisi and CSP Idowu Olatunji.
According to the police statement, officers acted on credible intelligence pointing to a suspected criminal hideout in the Adeleye area of Itele, Ota, where stolen vehicles were allegedly being concealed.
“Operatives sighted the suspected stolen vehicles within the premises and immediately cordoned off the area, laying strategic ambush for the occupants,” the statement said.
The operation later resulted in the arrest of Mohammed Usman late Saturday night, while a follow-up operation the next day led to the capture of Ogunojukan under the Sango-Ota bridge area.
Police said Ogunojukan confessed to involvement in the crimes and provided useful information helping investigators trace other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover additional vehicles.
The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reacting to the arrests, Bode Ojajuni praised the operatives for what he described as professionalism and effective intelligence-driven policing.
He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime and dismantling criminal networks operating within the state.
