Global football’s biggest stage has its soundtrack. Shakira has released “Dai Dai”, the official song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring Nigerian Grammy-winning Afrobeat star Burna Boy in a high-profile global collaboration already gaining massive attention across streaming platforms.

The track, unveiled on Friday, marks another return to football’s biggest musical spotlight for Shakira, who has become closely associated with World Cup anthems over the past two decades.

Announcing the release on social media, the Colombian superstar told fans: “Dai Dai is here. The @FIFAWorldCup 2026 starts now!”

Within hours of its release, the song became available on major platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music, instantly positioning it as one of the most talked-about global releases ahead of the tournament.

FIFA also confirmed the launch in a statement on its official X account, describing the song as a celebration of unity, energy and global football culture. The governing body said the track was produced under Sony Music Latin and designed to reflect the spirit of the World Cup.

Beyond entertainment, “Dai Dai” carries a humanitarian focus. FIFA announced that proceeds from the song will support its Global Citizen Education Fund, aimed at raising $100 million to improve access to education and football opportunities for children worldwide.

Shakira has also pledged her royalties to the initiative, while Sony Music is expected to match the first $250,000 raised, strengthening the fundraising drive tied to the tournament.

The song blends motivational themes of resilience and ambition, while weaving in references to some of football’s biggest icons, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, Pelé and Diego Maradona, alongside nations such as Brazil, Argentina, France, Germany and Nigeria’s broader football-loving fan base.

For Shakira, the release continues a long-standing World Cup legacy that includes global hits like “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” in 2010 and “La La La” in 2014, both of which dominated international charts.

Burna Boy’s involvement also marks another milestone for African music on the world stage. He becomes one of the few Nigerian artists to feature in a FIFA World Cup soundtrack, following Davido’s appearance on the 2022 official song “Hayya Hayya (Better Together)”.

FIFA has also confirmed that Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema will headline the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Cup in Los Angeles, further underlining Africa’s growing influence in global football entertainment.

The 2026 tournament will kick off on June 11, with Mexico facing South Africa at the iconic Azteca Stadium, setting the stage for what FIFA describes as the biggest World Cup in history.
