A new nationwide voter mobilisation campaign is set to kick off ahead of Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary as civic organisation De Ambassadors Global Network unveiled “Operation PVC” to encourage Nigerians to participate more actively in the country’s democratic process.

The initiative, announced on Sunday, is part of activities lined up to commemorate Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1, 2026, with organisers targeting increased voter awareness and civic engagement across the country.

For years, voter apathy has remained one of the biggest concerns in Nigerian elections despite the country’s return to democratic rule in 1999. Through Operation PVC, DAGN plans to drive a three-week nationwide media and civic engagement campaign aimed at encouraging citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate fully in future elections.

In a statement, the organisation described the campaign as a transformative national movement designed to help Nigerians reclaim and redefine the country’s narrative through active participation, creativity and innovation.

According to DAGN, Nigeria’s image has for decades been shaped largely by political crises, economic challenges and negative international perceptions, while the resilience, creativity and achievements of ordinary Nigerians have often been overlooked.

“Beyond those narratives exists another Nigeria — driven by resilience, innovation, creativity, enterprise, leadership and hope,” the organisation stated.

The initiative is being organised in partnership with African University of Science and Technology and other collaborators, with organisers promising a broad programme that combines civic participation, youth empowerment and national recognition.

One of the major highlights of the project is the Nigeria National Digital Youth Talent Challenge, a competition aimed at discovering and rewarding talented young Nigerians across several sectors, including music, football, basketball, fashion, comedy, technology, innovation, skit-making and film production.

To reinforce the importance of voting and civic responsibility, Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora will participate directly in selecting winners through a voting system designed around democratic participation.

According to the organisers, the public voting process will determine finalists and eventual winners in various categories, a model they say promotes transparency, inclusion and nationwide ownership.

Winners of the competition are expected to receive cash prizes, startup and creative funding support, professional contracts and opportunities for both national and international exposure.

DAGN said the broader goal of the initiative is to create a platform where Nigerians can celebrate individuals, organisations and stories that reflect the spirit, talent and aspirations of modern Nigeria while also strengthening democratic participation ahead of future elections.
