Former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Borno South after emerging as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The outcome followed an affirmation process held in Maiduguri, where Ndume was returned unopposed after his main challenger, Abdullahi Askira, withdrew from the race after consultations with party stakeholders.

Askira, who also serves as Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, stepped down last month, citing extensive engagement with political leaders across the senatorial district. His withdrawal cleared the path for Ndume’s smooth affirmation.

Ndume, reacting after his emergence, expressed appreciation to party leaders, delegates, and stakeholders in Borno South for what he described as a strong show of trust and unity behind his candidacy. He also praised Askira’s decision to step aside, calling it a demonstration of loyalty to the party and respect for internal consensus-building.

The long-serving lawmaker said he remains committed to advancing the interests of his constituents, promising continued representation built on engagement and political stability.

He urged APC members in the region to maintain unity as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections, stressing that cohesion within the party remains critical to electoral success.

If victorious in 2027, Ndume would extend his tenure in the National Assembly to a fifth term, further deepening his long-standing influence in Nigeria’s legislative politics.
