Fresh cracks have emerged within the Peoples Democratic Party in Nasarawa State after a House of Representatives aspirant, David Ayuba Dumwe, filed a suit challenging the alleged emergence of Beauty Sudar Aliyu as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Dumwe, who is seeking the PDP ticket for the Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, approached the Federal High Court sitting in Lafia, accusing the party of sidestepping due process in its candidate selection process.
Court documents showed that the suit, marked FHC/LF/CS/9/2026, listed the Independent National Electoral Commission and Beauty Sudar Aliyu as the second and third defendants respectively.
The aspirant argued that the PDP allegedly declared Aliyu as its consensus candidate without obtaining his consent or conducting a valid primary election as required under the Electoral Act.
Dumwe maintained that the move violated democratic principles and denied aspirants a transparent and lawful process for contesting elective positions under the party’s platform.
He further insisted that all political parties are expected to comply strictly with constitutional provisions and electoral guidelines in the nomination of candidates ahead of elections.
The legal battle comes amid heightened political realignments and internal disputes across several parties following the conclusion of primary elections ahead of the 2027 polls.
Political observers say the case could test how courts interpret consensus arrangements within political parties, especially where aspirants claim exclusion or lack of consultation.
The Federal High Court in Lafia has fixed June 16, 2026, for hearing in the matter.
