Tinubu Vows to Crush Insecurity, Rescue All Kidnap Victims Ahead of 2027 Elections

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration will not relent in the fight against insecurity, declaring that the Federal Government remains determined to rescue all citizens held captive by terrorists, kidnappers and criminal groups across the country.

The President also acknowledged the growing economic hardship facing many Nigerians, promising that his government would intensify efforts to ease the burden on households through what he described as sustainable democratic dividends.

Tinubu’s message was delivered on Sunday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, during the National Inter-Denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

Addressing worshippers and dignitaries at the event, Akume congratulated Nigerians on 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule since 1999, describing the milestone as proof of the sacrifices and resilience of citizens who fought for democracy after years of military rule.

He paid tribute to heroes of the June 12 struggle, noting that many pro-democracy activists endured persecution, imprisonment and death to secure democratic governance for the country.

Speaking on the nation’s security challenges, the SGF admitted that attacks, kidnappings and displacement across several communities remain painful realities. However, he insisted that the government would not surrender to criminal elements.

“The government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation,” Akume declared while assuring citizens that security agencies were receiving the necessary support to protect lives and secure communities.

The government also used the occasion to caution young Nigerians against participating in political violence, ethnic attacks and misinformation campaigns as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections begin to intensify.

Akume urged youths not to “rent out their conscience” for political patronage, money or online popularity, warning that democracy should never become a battlefield fueled by hate speech and intolerance.

The service attracted several high-profile government officials, including Godswill Akpabio, Benjamin Kalu, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack.

Tinubu’s administration has continued to face mounting pressure over insecurity, rising living costs and economic reforms, with many Nigerians demanding faster action to tackle kidnappings, terrorism and inflation affecting daily life across the country.
