Former Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, has challenged Nigerian youths and students to embrace discipline, resilience, consistency and hard work, describing them as the essential ingredients for achieving lasting success in life.
Madumere, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri Zone), made the call during the inauguration of the students’ wing of his Journey of Grace movement. The event formed part of activities marking his 62nd birthday celebration at his campaign office along Okigwe Road in Owerri.
Addressing the students, Madumere said his ambition to represent Imo East in the Senate is driven by a vision to deliver effective representation and meaningful democratic dividends to youths, women and the elderly. He described the Journey of Grace initiative as a platform for positive transformation and urged young people to make it their own by spreading its message across communities ahead of the 2027 elections.
The American-trained technocrat and human capital development expert encouraged students to remain optimistic, think beyond limitations and pursue their dreams with determination. He stressed that greatness is achieved through purposeful focus, a clear vision and unwavering faith in God.
He also noted that rapid technological advancement and changing global realities require a generation that is innovative, creative and willing to challenge outdated ways of thinking. According to him, genuine enterprise, excellence and integrity—not shortcuts—are the keys to sustainable success.
Madumere warned against the growing culture of instant gratification, saying the belief that success can be achieved without sacrifice often leads to disappointment and stagnation.
“I represent the real deal. I have the capacity, acumen, dexterity, reach and contacts to deliver. I am one of you—accessible, dependable and reliable. The desire of our people for positive change and quality representation will remain the foundation of my agenda when elected to represent Owerri Zone in the Senate,” he said.
The former deputy governor also pledged to sign a social contract with the people of Owerri Senatorial Zone if elected in 2027. He said the agreement would ensure accountability and quality service delivery while focusing on youth and women empowerment, job creation and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
Expressing confidence in the potential of young Nigerians, Madumere described students as the leaders of tomorrow and urged them to build their future on integrity, humility, transparency and courage. He maintained that “a new Owerri Zone is possible” through the Journey of Grace vision and called on residents to work together to achieve sustainable development.
Speaking at the event, the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Imo State University pledged the support of the student body towards the realisation of the Journey of Grace initiative.
Activities marking Madumere’s 62nd birthday included a “Feed the Street” outreach, visits to the Nigerian Red Cross at Emmanuel College, Owerri, and an orphanage in the World Bank Housing Estate, Owerri.
