Labour Party House of Representatives candidate for Owerri Federal Constituency, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has pledged to transform governance in the constituency by replicating what she described as the successful leadership model of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, if elected in the 2027 general elections.

The former First Lady, popularly known as Ada Owere 1, made the promise while speaking with journalists in Owerri, Imo State. She said residents of the constituency deserve quality representation and meaningful democratic dividends, adding that her decision to contest was driven by a desire to bring lasting development to the area.

Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu described Governor Alex Otti’s administration as the “gold standard” of governance, insisting that the Labour Party has demonstrated that quality leadership can deliver tangible results. She urged governors across the country to adopt similar policies to accelerate national development.

She also commended the Nenadi Usman-led Labour Party leadership, saying it demonstrates that women are capable of providing purposeful and effective leadership. According to her, giving women greater opportunities in public office would encourage innovation, accountability and sustainable development.

Speaking on her priorities, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, founder of the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria and a breast cancer survivor, said she would work to strengthen healthcare delivery by promoting collaboration between the federal, state and local governments. She also promised to use legislative advocacy to ensure the needs of Owerri Federal Constituency receive greater attention at the National Assembly.

Highlighting her track record in youth development, she revealed that she has organised annual ICT and skills acquisition boot camps for girls since 2017, with more than 3,000 beneficiaries. She pledged to expand digital empowerment and entrepreneurship programmes aimed at reducing youth unemployment across the constituency.

On security, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu proposed regular town hall meetings involving traditional rulers, community leaders and residents to improve local intelligence and address insecurity. She added that young people would be encouraged to volunteer in community security initiatives with attractive incentives.

She assured constituents that no form of intimidation would discourage her from contesting, promising to prioritise road infrastructure, quality healthcare, improved education, job creation and stronger collaboration across all levels of government.

“I am not contesting to feed; I am presenting myself to serve and to do things that will truly benefit our people. We will do a new thing. Let’s give women a chance for creativity and optimal productivity,” she said.
