Funke Akindele Reveals Sacrifices Behind Her Record-Breaking Success

LAGOS, Nigeria – Award-winning Nollywood actress, producer and filmmaker Funke Akindele has attributed her remarkable success in the Nigerian film industry to years of hard work, dedication and personal sacrifice.

Speaking in a recent interview with BellaNaija, the record-breaking filmmaker said her consistent box office success is the result of giving everything she has to her craft.

According to Akindele, she became so committed to filmmaking that she neglected her personal life and self-care for years.

“It is a lot of work. When I say a lot of work, a lot of giving your all into work. I was looking back, I was telling myself that, ‘People are saying you look beautiful. You’re loving yourself in the mirror. Why did it take you so long to care about yourself?'”

She revealed that her demanding work schedule left little room for social activities or personal grooming.

“I abandoned myself for work. I don’t even make my hair, except I am going on the red carpet for something very important. I don’t attend parties. I don’t visit people. I put everything into work. Research, writing, work.”

The actress explained that only recently has she begun taking time to focus on herself through skincare and self-care routines.

“I am neck deep into work. I sacrificed my time. It is just now that I am relaxed, doing skincare routine, looking beautiful and smelling nice.”

Akindele noted that her achievements, including the impressive commercial success of her latest movie, were built on years of sacrifice and relentless commitment.

“It was a lot of sacrifices for me. So for me to get all these achievements, for my last movie Behind The Scene to gross ₦2.7 billion, it was a lot of sacrifices,” she said.

Widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most successful filmmakers, Akindele has continued to set new box office records with several blockbuster productions in recent years.
