Delta Police Arrest Popular Content Creator Odogwu Asaba Over Alleged Rape Case Linked to Woman’s Death

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a popular content creator, identified as Odogwu Asaba, over allegations of rape involving a 21-year-old woman who later died.

The suspect was taken into custody following a petition submitted by human rights activist Comrade Israel Joe, who called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The young woman, whose identity has been withheld, was reportedly brought to Asaba by the suspect under the claim that he wanted to assist her. She was later said to have taken her own life after the alleged incident.

Confirming the arrest on Wednesday, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday at his residence in Asaba.

The police spokesperson disclosed that Odogwu Asaba is currently being held by investigators and has allegedly made statements concerning the allegations. Authorities are expected to continue investigations to establish the full circumstances of the case.

Comrade Israel Joe, who initiated the petition that led to the arrest, praised the Delta State Police Command for responding to the matter. He, however, stressed that the investigation must be thorough and that justice must be delivered.

The development has sparked renewed conversations about the need for stronger protection of victims of sexual violence, improved reporting systems, and swift investigation of allegations involving vulnerable persons.
