Nigerian Army Dismantles Suspected Illegal Bunkering Site in Lagos, Arrests Six Suspects

Troops of the 65 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have dismantled a suspected illegal oil bunkering operation in the Orile area of Lagos, arresting six suspects during a targeted raid aimed at tackling economic sabotage.

The operation was carried out by troops under the command of Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected oil thieves in the area.

In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya said the troops stormed the illegal bunkering site and successfully disrupted the operation.

During the raid, soldiers arrested six suspected oil bunkerers and recovered equipment believed to have been used for the illicit activity. The recovered items included four trucks, one pumping machine, and assorted pipes and drums allegedly used to siphon and transport petroleum products.

The Army disclosed that the suspects, alongside the recovered exhibits, have been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Reacting to the successful operation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, praised the troops for their professionalism and swift action in dismantling the illegal operation.

He also charged personnel to sustain the ongoing offensive against economic sabotage, crude oil theft and other criminal activities within the 81 Division’s area of responsibility.
