Osun Governorship Election: Campaigns End Tonight as APC Holds Final Rally Ahead of Saturday Poll

The race for the Osun State governorship is entering its final stage as political parties prepare to end their campaigns at midnight on Thursday, August 13, ahead of Saturday’s election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, fixed August 15 for the governorship poll, leaving parties with just hours to make their final appeals to voters before the campaign window closes.

The final day is expected to be politically charged, with the All Progressives Congress, APC, scheduled to hold a major rally in Osogbo. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and other senior party figures are expected to attend the event.

The closing phase of the campaign has also been marked by concerns over security and the conduct of the election. Political tensions have risen in recent days, with rival parties and supporters trading accusations as they push for victory in Saturday’s contest.

Meanwhile, INEC has adjusted the election materials following a court order that paved the way for the inclusion of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, governorship candidate on the ballot.

The electoral commission said it had reprinted the affected ballot papers and result sheets to reflect the court-ordered change. The adjustment adds another layer to an already closely watched election.

With campaigns ending tonight, political parties will no longer be able to rely on rallies and public events to sway voters. Attention will now turn to election-day logistics, security arrangements and the ability of voters across Osun State to cast their ballots peacefully.

On Saturday, voters will decide who takes control of Osun State for the next four years, bringing the campaign season to an end and putting the competing political claims to the test at the ballot box.
